[0] => This function describes the regulation of the practise of law practitioners, and includes the admission of barristers and solicitors to High Court of New Zealand (known as the Supreme Court of New Zealand up to 1 April 1980), the prescription of qualifications of barristers and solicitors, appointment of barristers as King's Counsel (KC) or Queen's Counsel (QC), the issuing of practising certificates, and the conduct and discipline of law practitioners. The Law Practitioners Act 1854 enabled the barristers and solicitors of the Supreme Court to act as general law practitioners, and further Acts and amendments regulated the practise of law practitioners. The Law Practitioners Act 1982 was replaced by the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006, which provided for the separate regulation of lawyers and conveyancing practitioners.
