It was headed by a Regional Manager.
The Transport Registry Centre (TRC), managed by the Regulatory Services Group of LTNZ, was based in the Palmerston North Regional Office. It was responsible for delivering the motor vehicle registration and licensing system, the driver licensing system and the collection of road user charges from commercial transport operators and light vehicle diesel users. It also issued over-dimensions permits.
On 1 August 2008 Land Transport New Zealand and Transit New Zealand were merged to form a new agency, the New Zealand Transport Agency.
