The District Land Registry (also known as the Land Transfer Office, and Land Titles Office) employed a Registrar of Deeds/Land Registrar and a number of clerks who had responsibility to
·      register and index against each section of land all instruments presented for registration
·      certify office copies and submit returns under the Treasury Regulations
·      record fees paid and one clerk was employed to administer Stamp Duties
This correspondence relates to registration of titles and includes correspondence and circulars from Head Office. Item 122/1 contains a copy of a survey sent out by Treasury assessing what works is carried out by Government Offices throughout the country. The results of that survey can be found in the 1866 Appendices to the Journals of the House of Representatives Civil Service Reports.
