This series comprises applications for depasturage licenses.  These Licenses were often granted on waste land not yet purchased from the Crown. Applications were made to depasture stock on the land in return for a fee.The system was in effect a rental fee as departing licencees were paid for any improvements.  Many licence holders went on to take the land through leasehold, demanding pre-emptive rights in lieu of their improvements.
These registers appear to be related to the Surveying of the pastoral runs.  They record licence number, description of land and acreage.  The registers are in licence or run number order.
