Land outside the original Canterbury Association land holding known as the ‘Canterbury Block’ was governed by the 1853 Land Regulations. The area was administered by the Land Office at Akaroa by Colonel Campbell, the then Commissioner for Crown Lands.  The Akaroa Office closed in 1853, however, land inside and outside the block was still administered by two sets of land regulations.
