George Cooper was appointed the first Colonial Treasurer by Governor William Hobson R.N., on 3 May 1841. Francis Dillon Bell M.P. (Hutt) was the first elected representative to be appointed Colonial Treasurer at the formation of the first administration of responsible government in New Zealand, 7 May 1856.
