[additionalDescriptionItem] => In 1962 Inia Te Wiata was commissioned to carve a pouihi to be installed in New Zealand House, London. This was to be a pole of recognition, where the figures represented all the major tribes throughout New Zealand. In a breakaway from traditional maori carving, we see the progression of the pouihi from beginning to near completion in 1971 when Inia te Wiata died. Stills and music are interspersed throughout the film to illustrate aspects of Inia Te Wiata's career as a singer.
