Catalogue Synopsis: Dedicated enthusiasts have painstakingly restored several steam locomotives from New Zealand's railway past and during the twelve months of New Zealand's Centennial of rail transport three engines re-live the journeys of their youth. Sequences of the 1985 Centennial Special run down the North Island's Main Trunk Railway employing Paekakariki's Ka 945 and Ja 1250 from Auckland's Glenbrook Vintage Railway, together with footage of the 1986 Ka 945 Manawatu Excursion, are combined with two earlier NFU classic railway films, Kb Country and The Ride of 480. Kb Country features the spectacular Midland line from Christchurch to the West Coast. For many years the Kb's, the most powerful steam locos in the country, slogged through the mountains and over viaducts on this line bringing coal and timber from the West Coast. Kb Country is a unique record of the journey, the machines and the men who drove and fired them. The Ride of 480 tells of the epic 1000 kilometre delivery trip of the tiny tank engine, WW 480, from Greymouth to Auckland for restoration. 50 mins.
