Restrictions vary for the component accessions of this series. Items may be restricted from date of closure because they contain personal information about individuals (in accordance with the Privacy Act 1993) or because they contain sensitive information provided to the Crown in confidence (in accordance with s.9 (2) of the Official Information Act 1982).
For reasons of personal privacy, all Land Tenure Case Files are restricted for 40 years from the date of record closure.

W5097: Items marked "Restricted" in the series are restricted for 70 years. All other items in this series have no access restrictions.
W3429; W5021: Items marked "Restricted" in the series are restricted for 40 years. All other items in this series have no access restrictions.
W3531, W3529; W3268 and W3430: The following restrictions apply to all items (see below).
All parts of all case files are closed to public access for 40 years from the date of last action to protect personal subject matter.
- After 40 years access is to be unrestricted.
All general or policy files are open to public access subject to any non-government researcher signing an undertaking not to disclose or use any information of a personal nature that:
(1) Is less than 40 years old
(2) Refers to case files which are still restricted (ie. are less than 40 years old).
- After 50 years access to be unrestricted.
The researcher declaration can be obtained by Archives New Zealand staff using Objective ID A60654.
The restrictions on public access do not apply to authorised government staff, i.e. currently from Lands and Survey and the Rural Bank
Accredited agents of Land Information New Zealand and those to whom the Chief Crown Property Officer, Land Information New Zealand has given written authorisation are exempted from the restriction.
Preservation Conditions
Some records are protected under section 49(1)(a) of the Public Records Act 2005.
Photographs require that gloves are worn when viewing.
