The Albertland South Roads Board was initially known as the Albertland South Highway Board. Its boundaries were gazetted in December 1876.
The Roads Board was responsible for road building and maintenance in its district. Residents of the district were rated to fund various road works, and each roads board prepared an annual assessment list of owners and property.
Many roads boards had difficulty raising funds, so focused on roads that assisted the development of their district. Central government assisted by subsidising some road building, providing grants to councils, or building roads and then handing ownership and maintenance responsibilities to local councils [1].
Most roads boards were taken over by county councils after 1922 and the Albertland South Roads Board eventually amalgamated with Rodney County around 1924.
