A circular notice from the South Auckland Education Board regarding log books states that entries in these books should be dated and should cover matters that are important to the school from the point of view of an historical record of events in the life of the school. Entries should include additions and alterations to school buildings, staff, appointments and terminations, school committee election results, education visits, special gala days, etc.

It appears that the Auckland Metropolitan College Log books were largely compiled by students and do not follow the conventional methods followed by other schools of recording such events. These log books mainly consist of photographs, notes, newsletters and newspaper articles. The log books are arranged in chronological order by year, but the events recorded are not always dated or annotated within that year.

This is a collection of photographs, negatives, audio and visual cassettes, which informally capture a record of activities carried out by the school such as school camps, visits, prizegivings etc. Some photographs of students and the school buildings have also been captured.

Audio and visual cassettes have been included in this series, as they also informally capture events at the school.

The Registers of Attendance document the daily attendance of each pupil, within each quarter of the given year. Each pupil is given a consecutive number and then alongside the following details are recorded; name, age in years and months, whether present or absent for each school day. For each pupil their total attendance for each week and each quarter can be calculated with a column left for remarks.

There are large gaps in this series, with only a few registers having been transferred to Archives New Zealand. A fire in 1986 destroyed much of the schools records.

There is an index by pupil's name in the front of each volume.

This artificial series includes the following:

The series consists of three registers:

• The first register dates from 1958-1965, and is arranged chronologically by year and date of admission. Each pupil is given a unique admission number (the year of admission, followed by a consecutive number for that year), and the entry records their date of admission, full name, date of birth, the name and address of their parent or guardian, the last school attended, their classification and progress, their date of withdrawal from the school, and their destination upon leaving.

• The second register dates from 1966-1992, and in addition to the above information, it records the dates that a corresponding School Record Card was requested, received and dispatched.

• The third register dates from 1993-2013, and records the same information as the second register. However, as School Record Cards were replaced by an electronic student record management system during that time, the student's electronic record identification number was recorded in the register.

All three registers have alphabetically arranged indexes at the front, listing students' names and admission numbers.

The series consists of registers covering the period from 1956 to 2006.

Avondale Primary School Governance Records include School Committee meeting minutes and outwards letterbooks, Board of Trustees' minutes, financial statements, annual reports, school charters and other papers.

Principal's reports are included within the Board of Trustees' minutes and papers, along with personnel, curriculum, property and other reports. Policy and procedure reviews are also included.

The first School Committe minutes are dated 1962 and precede the opening of the school in 1963. There are no School Committee minutes held after May 1980, and there are also gaps in the Board of Trustees' minutes, which cover 1996-2013 only.

The Aranui Primary School Board of Trustees' minutes include Principal's Reports, financial statements and other papers.

Charters, strategic planning, school policies, property material, In-Committee minutes and correspondence can also be found in this series.

The items in this series include minutes, agenda, correspondence, reports and other documents tabled at Board of Trustees meetings at Te Whanau-a-Apanui School.

School Boards of Trustees were a product of the 1989 educational reforms that saw the replacement of the Department of Education with a much smaller Ministry of Education. Boards of Trustees became responsible for the operational running of the school and were elected by the parents of each individual school. The Boards were usually made up of the Principal, a teacher representative, parents from the school and other community representatives.1

This series consists of registers from 1955-1988 (though there are gaps in the holdings within this date range). Registers contain some or all of the following information:

• The student’s name and age as on 1 January of the current year.

• The time since his/her admission to their first school as on 1 January of the current year.

• His/her present classification.

• Attainment in various subjects according to a scale of 1 to 5, and the character attributes they bring to their learning (e.g. stability, co-operation, independence, perseverance) on a scale of A-D.

• Brief qualitative statements on each pupil’s abilities in particular areas (e.g. reading, oral and written language, spelling, mathematics etc.), followed by general reports and comments about them.

• Head Teacher’s reports about the standard of each class as a whole, and the proficiency of the class teacher.

This series consists of the Manning Intermediate School Committee records, concerned with the administration of the school.

The minute books include the Principal's reports, and the Education Department inspections of the period are also included in this series.

The "Tomorrow's Schools" education administration reform in 1989 saw School Committees replaced with Boards of Trustees.

Morven School Governance Records include School Committee meeting minutes (prior to its replacement by the Board of Trustees in 1989), Board of Trustees' minutes and Principal's reports, School Committee and Board of Trustees' annual accounts and financial statements, minutes of annual general meetings and other papers of the Board.

Also included are the school charters, policies and procedures, and some land records.

Holdings of Headmaster's/Principal's reports start in 1959, but there are no School Committee minutes extant until 1985, and there are gaps in the holdings of Board of Trustees' minutes in later years.

Some of the minutes have been kept in exercise books, but most are loose papers.

These registers record pupils' results in periodic examinations.

There are directions for use in the front, and the information is recorded in tables showing each pupil's result in subjects such as reading, spelling and arithmetic - over three exams each year. The pupils' results are listed numerically by class, from Standard 6/Form 2 down to Primer 4, and alphabetically within each class. There is a section in the back of each volume headed General Reports, where the headmaster recorded observations on the standards achieved by each class in each subject. All three exam results and General Reports not necessarily filled in.

These standard issue pre-printed bound volumes record bi-annual surveys of student achievement, giving the attainment of individual pupils in various subjects such as history, writing and arithmetic. At the back of the booklets there are General Reports regarding each year group written by the Head Teacher.

Plan of the building of Upper Waitohi [School] Hall - Following the closure of the school c.1942, the school building was converted for use as a Community Hall. This plan is presumed to be the proposed alterations to the building for it's new use, circa 1943.

This series consists of Teacher's Scheme Books for Washdyke Primary School. Each teacher had to prepare a scheme of work for each subject for each class, to be approved by the Inspector of Schools.

These soft bound, pre printed volumes handwritten by various teachers describe the extent and general nature of instruction prepared, outlining the grouping of classes and the work to be covered in each subject.

All of New Zealand's state and state-integrated schools have a board of trustees. The board of trustees is the Crown entity responsible for the governance and the control of the management of the school. The board is the employer of all staff in the school, is responsible for setting the school's strategic direction in consultation with parents, staff and students, and ensuring that its school provides a safe environment and quality education for all its students. Boards are also responsible for overseeing the management of personnel, curriculum, property, finance and administration.

The Aranui Primary School Committee Minutes document proceedings at the committee meetings, concerning the administration of the school. Subject matters include finance and accounts, correspondence, appointments and vacancies and school maintenance. 

Aranui Primary School was known as Breezes Road School until 1916.

This series consists of Aranui Primary School (formerly known as Breezes Road School) government-issue registers of pupil admission, progress and withdrawal.
