	This series description was compiled as part of a project to capture the finding aids created prior to 1987 into the GAIMS system. The grouping of these records into series was done by Hocken Library. These records were transferred by the Department of Lands and Survey, Dunedin District Office, DAAK, to the Hocken Library between 1976 and 1983. Hocken Library was the approved repository for Archives New Zealand until 1993. The end date for series relationship with DAAK is taken to be 1983.

	Pastoral Run Application Licenses, 1885-1892

	This volume has Applications for Pastoral Runs on land opened up, under the Land Act 1885 and amending acts, for pastoral use. This volume includes the newspaper advertisement, applications, schedules and correspondence relating to the applications. The information recorded is: Run Number, Term, Area (Acreage), Name of Applicant, Trade or Profession, Address, rental and license fees.

	The entries record details of mortgages, date license and mortgage documents received and who from, file references to Correspondence Files, Date and Amount of Deposits Received and Decisions of the Land Board or Commissioner of Crown Lands (with dates) .

	They are annotated to say: Entered in Runs Register - see DAAK/D450/786. The Runs Register covers the period 1878 to 1960.

	Tenders for Lease of Land under Perpetual Lease, 1887-1890

	This volume has Tenders for land on deferred payment under the Land Acts of 1877, Amendment Act 1882 and 1885. The Tenders include details of the amount tendered, legal description of the land, name of tenderer, their address, occupation and date of tender. The tender form may be filled out to include an "Authority to Act as Agent". The Agent is the person presenting the tender to the Land Board, on the renderer's behalf.

	The Tender form is sometimes annotated with the Land Board's decision and the Perpetual Lease (PL) number is noted in red.

	Applications for the Transfer of Perpetual Leases 1890-1894

	This volume has applications to transfer the leases for land held on perpetual lease under the Land Act 1885. The applications usually include correspondence and are addressed to the Commissioner of Crown Lands applying for the transfer. They usually annotated with the Land Board's decision. The applications include the declaration before a justice of the peace that the land is for their own use and benefit, they are the occupier, they do not own more than 2,000 acres, and they have not surrendered a lease prior to this application.

	The applications include the legal description of the land, name, address, occupation, date of application, area (acreage), rent per acre, capital value per acre, amount deposited and relevant remarks.

	The Perpetual Lease Number (PL) may also be noted.

	Applications for Timber Licenses, 1900-1902

	This volume includes applications, under the Land Act 1892 and the State Forests Act 1885 Forest Regulations, to cut timber. Regulations relating to Timber Licenses were published in the New Zealand Government Gazette in 1886 and 1889.

	They are annotated with the Land Board's decision and have references to correspondence files.

	They record the purpose of the license, name, occupation, address, area of timber to be cut, deposit, a sketch map and signature. The schedule usually includes the legal description of the land.

	Applications by World War II Veterans for Waitapeka Farm Settlement, 1952

	This folder contains applications for a Renewable Lease on Section 6 of the Waitepeka Farm Settlement, under the Land Act 1948. The land was available for selection by discharged World War II soldiers. The folder includes the ballot schedule that lists names and notes who was successful in the ballot.

	The application form records: the legal description of the land, area (acreage), type of tenure (Freehold, Renewable Lease or Deferred Payment), and a declaration that the applicant has been classified by the Rehabilitation Board as being eligible for assistance, they are suitable, they haven't applied before,  they are the person in their grading certificate, the property is for personal use,  the type of tenure required,  they have inspected the property and they accept the conditions of the lease as outlined on the back of the application form.

	Some correspondence from the Rehabilitation Board is included, as well as file notes created by Lands and Survey Department.

	The arrangement of these records into series was done by the Hocken Library, using the 'record group' finding aid system. These records were assigned series number AG220/48 by Hocken Library.
