These volumes contain the receipt butts for receipts issued by the Receiver of Land Revenue. The receipt butt gives number, date, name and details of payment, for example: remainder of land purchase, auction, deposit, Crown Grant survey fees, etc.  They include some correspondence, which has been interleaved with the relevant receipt butt.  The correspondence usually is from the payee, for example, forwarding a bank draft or cheque. 


Accession D83 has similar receipt books for 1876 and 1880. 


The volumes from 1881-1885 have a different format. They are the Receiver of Land Revenue's Office copies of receipts issued  and are annotated to say that a duplicate receipt has been issued to present to the District Land Registrar, who issued the Crown Grant certificate.


Item 9205/D352/1a is a soft covered volume with damaged torn cover & broken spine/binding. It is an archival estray, rescued by D. J. Crossland, in about 1993, from Dunbar House on the corner of Dunbar and Cumberland Streets in Dunedin. Dunbar House was occupied by the Department of Survey and Land Information and Department of Labour Dunedin District Offices.



Series 9417 (see the Related Series tab) has some of the actual loose receipts issued by the Receiver of Land Revenue which were subsequently surrendered back to the Receiver by land owners.

The arrangement of these records into series was done by the Hocken Library, using the 'record group' finding aid system. These records were assigned series number AG220/88 by Hocken Library.
