This series consists of records of a Commission of Enquiry set up to enquire and report upon certain matters concerning the transport of New Zealand contingents from South Africa by the steamers 'Britannic' and 'Orient'. The Commissioners were William Russell (chairman), R. McNab and J.A. Millar who were appointed on 11 August 1902. The Commission of Enquiry found that conditions were extremely poor on troop ships. There was overcrowding, lack of discipline and an unhygienic environment which led to widespread epidemics of contagious diseases. 

Subject material relating to this Commission was published in the Appendices to the Journals of the House of Representatives (AJHR 1902 H6c).
