Provenance:
Almost all of the archives of the Lieutenant Governor of New Munster were deposited in the Government House when the province was abolished.  They remained there until transferred to Archives New Zealand in July 1948.  Many of the despatches written before October 1848 were destroyed in an earthquake in Wellington, but these may be seen in the entry book of the Governor-in-Chief's despatches to the Lieutenant Governor in the Governor Record Group archives (series ACHK 16586/1).
