            [history] => Records of the Crown Lands Office document the management of Crown Land (both leases and reserves) and the sale of land for cash or on settlement conditions. 

These volumes have also been described in the Record Group finding aids as LS Series 10. However, they remained in the Muniments Room of Land Information New Zealand's Head Office until December 2001. In c.1989 a survey was conducted of the key historical records held by the Head Office of DOSLI [Department of Survey and Land Information]. During this process records were listed and allocated numbers which can be found on the items and which have been documented in this list in the record number field. 

The Reference Books document the movement of correspondence received by the Crown Lands Office and referred to other departments. An index at the front of each volume lists the page numbers for each government agency documented. The Reference Books contain the following information:

Controlled Series: 
A significant portion of the correspondence was destroyed by the Hope Gibbons Building fire in 1952. No outwards correspondence has survived. The remaining inwards correspondence files held at Archives New Zealand are listed in both the Record Group and GAIMS Finding Aids. Please refer to the following lists for details:
