            [history] => Under the Broadcasting Authority Act 1968 s.20(1) the Authority had to supply the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (NZBC) with copies of applications for broadcast warrants. Covering letters on most of the applications in this series indicate that they are the Corporation's copies. It seems likely that this series comprises the NZBC's collection of material relating to warrant applications, including copies of exhibits and evidence, rather than a series created by the Broadcasting Authority. One item in the series consists of NZBC internal memos and notes on applications, and evidence to be presented to the Authority's hearings of applications; that is, material created by the NZBC rather than collected by it. 



It was not possible to classify all the papers as belonging in a particular item; therefore item 800/5b comprises miscellaneous papers relating to applications for private radio warrants.



Although the dates of the series are 1969-1970, when applications were made and then heard by the Broadcasting Authority, there is some earlier material in the papers relating to the application by Gospel Radio Fellowship. 



Arrangement 



The original order of this series appeared to have been disturbed before transferral to Archives New Zealand. To avoid any further loss of information about its order each paper/item was numbered sequentially, as it came out of its box and then rearranged into groups relating to the body applying for the radio warrant. Once this rearrangement was done several different classification systems became apparent: an alpha-numeric classification for exhibits for particular submissions; an alpha-numeric classification for some submissions to the Broadcasting Authority; a multiple number classification for NZBC memos within NZBC responses. 



Additions to this Series (800/6 -) transferred in W4771 have also been disturbed since they were current records. They have been moved from the basement of Broadcasting House to the basement of Bowen State Building and then to the care of State Services Commission in Molesworth Street before being transferred to Archives New Zealand. 



An attempt has been made to re-assemble the material but this is very approximate.
