	Scope

	This series was the central recordkeeping system for the Wellington Regional/District Office of the Road/Land Transport Division of the Ministry of Transport between 1968 and 1992. It is thought that this system was closed when the Ministry was restructured in 1992, during which it appears to have replaced the Wellington Regional/District Office with the Wellington Office (ABKL).

	

	Files from this series are likely to have been transferred to the New Zealand Police when the Division's traffic safety function was transferred in 1992.

	

	Provenance

	Files from this series transferred to Archives New Zealand by the Ministry of Transport, Wellington Regional Office (ABKL W5156) were acquired as a result of the restructuring between 1992 and 1993. Some Ministry of Transport, Marine/Maritime Division, Christchurch Office files were transferred as well.

	

	

	Classification

	The classification systems used by the Ministry's Regional, District and Sub-District Offices were, in theory, duplicates of the Head Office multiple number subject classification scheme (series 7457), as below:
