	Civil Case files typically include a covering court sheet with full dates, file identification, and full name/s of the party/ies involved, the appellant/s and respondent/s. If the state is involved this is clearly indicated.

	

	Files can include the following:

	

		the grounds for appeal;
	

		copies of records from either the High Court or the District Court;
	

		the summarised positions of the Appellant/s, Respondents and/or the Crown;
	

		reasons for not upholding the appeal;
	

		the final judgement

	For access to VHS recordings (once access to the files has been approved by the Court of Appeal), please contact:

	Research Services will confirm access permission has been given, and then refer requests to access VHS recordings to Preservation Services at Archives New Zealand.

	Lists of files of individuals or parties that have permanent name suppression are permanently restricted.

	Accession W5898 contains VHS recordings, for which there are additional access conditions.

	Some records are protected under section 49(1)(a) of the Public Records Act 2005. Magnetic media (such as VHS recordings) are not issuable due to their technical formats. Contact Archives New Zealand for permission to view or the availability of alternative access provisions. Viewing is by appointment only.
