	It is not known how these photographs came to be held by the State Services Commission. They were offered to Archives New Zealand after being found in an office. The photographs were originally produced by the Engineering Investigation Branch, Ministry of Works.

	

	The photographs depict the proposed path of the motorway as it enters the built up areas of central Wellington. Colour coded lines, with key, indicate the planned route in relation to existing structures.

	

	Relation to other records from Works is unknown. They do form part of some system as they are classified, all with the number 1296 and an alpha-numeric item code. Other photographs relating to the motorway can be found in series 783, which covers the construction period from 1968-1978.
