This was the main filing system for the State Hydro Branch of the Public Works Department. Although most of the file series in Series 569 were discontinued soon after the State Hydro-Electric Department was established in 1945, a number of files series remained active until at least the early 1990s. Notable examples include the Distribution Authorities (10/- files) and Electrical Wiring Regulations (8/- file series). 



Readers should note that sub-series 1 carry the alpha prefix denoting the State Hydro Electric Department (SHD). Only the accounts sub-series files from the former State Hydro Electric Department carries the (SHD) prefix. 



State Hydro Electric Schemes 


A lack of concise information on the exact relationship between series 569 and 7740, has necessitated a division of files from the above accessions according to a file series chronology - the closing of one series and the beginning of another. In part this relates to the workings of the two series, i.e., both series carried the same classification system and appear to have run partly in parallel. 



Accordingly, all files that began before the end of 1945, when series 569 was in the main discontinued, will be found in series 569, regardless of whether the file was in use up to the 1980s. Similarly, all files from the above accessions that began late 1945/early 1946 onwards will be found in the successor series, 7740. 



Consequently, readers searching for material on the State Hydo-Electric schemes should consult both series, as some file number parts will be found in both series.
