	Case files of criminal trials held at Auckland Supreme Court. The files may contain depositions, witness statements, details of evidence presented, and the verdict.

	Auckland Supreme/High Court criminal trial files for the years up to and including 1929 are no longer extant.  The files were destroyed on the authorisation of Supreme Court Justice Callan in 1949.

	His minute of 1949 [Archives Reference J.2/25/4] reads:

	Approval is given to destroy the under-mentioned records of the Supreme Court at Auckland which have been filed for more than twenty years.

	(a) Documents filed pursuant to the Chattels Transfer Act 1908 or the Chattels Transfer Act 1889.

	(b) Records in civil actions and in appeals thereon, not being divorce records.

	C) Records in criminal proceedings.

	(d) Judges Note-books over 10 years, but not for the first thirty years.
