	Adoption files are restricted indefinitely under section 23 of the Adoption Act 1955, and section 15 of the Adult Adoption Information Act 1985. The lists for individual adoption files are also restricted indefinitely.

	Access to Community/Welfare files from sub-series 18/1/-; 18/20/-; 18/21/-; and 18/141/- relating to maatua whangai, child welfare, and juvenile offending, are restricted for 100 years from date of file closure.

	The following file series are restricted for 40 years from date of record closure:

	24/- Housing files for named individuals; 25/- Land Development Scheme files for named individuals.

	Access to restricted files from the above file series is subject to the written permission of the Ministry of Maori Development, Head Office. Permission may be granted subject to the researchers undertaking not to communicate information obtained from the files, that could lead to the identification of any person, living or dead.

	Maori Trust files are restricted for 70 years from date of file closure:

	5/- Maori Trust Mortgages; 10/- Maori Trust Protected Persons; 11/- Maori Trust Estates; 12/- Maori Trust Leases and Sales.

	Access to restricted records from these file series is subject to the written permission of the Regional Manager, Maori Trustee Rotorua.
