	Timberlands Nelson District inherited the forest management function when The New Zealand Forest Service was disestablished under the State-Owned Enterprises Act 1986.

	This series included related records  inherited from the NZ Forest Service Nelson district office and those created by Timberlands Nelson District in carrying on its business. These records were grouped by divisions such as forest stations and nursery. 

	There are some files which overlapped with records in series 7496 Nelson/Marlborough Conservancy filing system and series 7498 (the central filing system of the New Zealand Forest Service, Blenheim District Office) as The Nelson Conservancy, one of seven regional offices of the NZ Forest Service, controlled the Nelson and Blenheim District Offices.
