This series replaced the earlier annual number registration system in 1997, when the local registration of criminal trial files was replaced with a national system of registration, known as JTS. This registered both District Court and High Court files together. However, files were still kept and administered at the local level, and identified as to whether High or District Court, and therefore the division of files by Court has been maintained.
