	The early District Courts (distinct from the courts of the same name established in 1980) were an intermediate court between the Magistrates’ Courts and the Supreme Court and were established in 1859. By the turn of the century, however, most of the functions of the District Courts were being undertaken by the local Magistrate’s Court. The District Courts were disestablished in 1908.
