The files in this series documented the various elements that constituted a juvenile criminal case brought before a Magistrate. These included summons to the defendant, (which included a description of the charge brought against the defendant), information for an Indictable Offence (which also describes the nature of the complaint), and in some instances reports from the child welfare officer and other agencies, such as the Education Department.The cover of each file noted the date, the parties involved and the decision which could include an order placing a child under the supervision of a welfare officer.
This series comprises a sample of files the Timaru Children's Court from the date range 1968-1972.
