	This series consists of the second sequence of District Office filing system of the Department of Lands and Survey Napier District Office. It appears that it replaced the first sequence (series 839), which was arranged using the multiple number system of classification, in approximately 1980.

	Files in this sequence were arranged using the alpha-numeric system of classification, with the alphabetical prefixes relating to the subject of the file. The following prefixes were used:

	

		NP - National Parks
	

		RES - Reserves
	

		WLK - Walkways


	On 1 April 1987 the Department of Conservation inherited the responsibility for national parks and reserves from the Department of Lands and Survey, and took over some of the records from this series. The Hawke's Bay (1987-1997), East Coast Hawke's Bay (1997-2009), and Wellington Hawke's Bay (2009-2013) Conservancy Offices continued to add documents to the files in this series until approximately 2004.
