	The business sheets gave a summary list of each hearing day's proceedings. They listed applications, miners' rights and renewals applied for, as well as any cases in front of the Resident Magistrate's or Police Court. The business sheets from each court sitting day were bundled up with the relevant mining applications, plaints and informations.

	Informations appear to have been laid by the Police against citizens, as opposed to plaints, which were complaints laid by citizens against other citizens. They were usually for criminal activities.

	The application files contained the documentation relating to persons applying for mining privileges in the St Bathans Warden's Court.  Applications had to be filed on forms prescribed in regulations issued under the Mining Act 1877 and its successors. The following is a list of application types -

	

		    Application for license for tail-race (or main tail-race)
	

		    Application for certificate of protection
	

		    Application for license for residence-site (or specified business-site)
	

		    Application for water-race
	

		    Application for license for a claim
	

		    Application for license for a dam
	

		    Application for amalgamation of claims
	

		    Application to surrender mining privilege absolutely


	The application files can contain some or all of the following items:

	

		plan showing extent of application
	

		objections
	

		correspondence
	

		summons for witness to appear
	

		copy of issued license
	

		reports by Government departments


	Once an application was lodged it was entered into the Register of Applications and then heard by the Warden.  If the application was successful then a license was issued. A number of the files also have copies of the registered license attached to them.

	The mining applications and Warden's plaints were kept in this manner at this time. They were later kept apart as separate series (25451 and 25452).
