	Although the items in this series appear to have been largely kept in separate sequences according to their office of origin, and the file numbers were not changed into a single sequence, there was some co-mingling and replacement of covers by the Department of Conservation, and the records appear to have been viewed as a group of legacy files, while simultaneously being seen as coming from separate offices.

	The files are arranged by type of predecessor agency, and then divided by location of office. Within these divisions, they are arranged by subject in a multiple number subject sequence.

	Protection of individual species files - nominated files to be restricted for 70 years from latest date on file to prevent disclosure of sensitive species preservation information.

	For access to restricted records permission must be granted in writing by the Information Services Team Lead after consultation with the Legal Services Team.  DOC staff and those in related agencies require the permission of Information Services.
