An Act to consitute the Tamaki West Licensing District, and to validate all things irregularly done therein under 'The Licensing Act, 1881' was passed in 1887 (No. 20) as it was discovered that although in 1882 the Licensing Districts of Mount Wellington and Tamaki West, in the County of Eden, were constituted udner the Licensing Act, it was found there were not a hundred ratepayers in the Tamaki West District, so it was decided to extend it to include Panmure. A proclamation was issued on 17 January 1883 reconstituting the districts, excluding Panmure from Mt Wellington District, but it was omitted from inclusion in the Tamaki West District in error. The 1887 Act corrected this omission, and included Panmure in the Tamaki West District. In the interim, the District was known as both the Panmure Licensing District and the Panmure and Tamaki West Licensing District, and the only local body appointed by the Governor to have authority in the area was the Panmure Road Board.
The Tamaki Licensing District was disestablished in 1955 due to changes in electoral boundaries. It was partitioned into other Licensing Districts, including the Otahuhu Licensing District.
