	The Commercial List was established as a pilot scheme in Auckland in 1987 by the working party, and became permanent four years later. "In Auckland, [it was] specifically set up by the Judicature Act to deal with commercial cases. Some High Court judges are appointed as commercial list judges. Commercial cases may relate to such things as the carriage of goods for the purpose of trade or commerce, the interpretation of commercial documents and disputes arising out of intellectual property rights between parties engaged in commerce."1

	The records are restricted for 60 years from date of closure, to comply with the provisions of the Privacy Act 1993 as well as other legislation controlling access to court records. Prior access is subject to the written authorisation of the Auckland High Court Manager.

	In general, records containing information relating to civil matters will no longer be restricted after 60 years has passed since the date of last action on the record.  However some records, or parts of records, may be sealed or restricted for longer periods by a court order.

	Please note:  Additional rules regarding copying and publication etc. may be imposed by the relevant court or the Ministry of Justice at the time of granting access to restricted records.
