	There were two sectional index volumes, with the second superseding the first.

	The first volume appears to have been begun when the Land Transfer System was first introduced. Each entry listed the corresponding certificate of title volume and folio reference for each section of land, as well as the provisional register (P.R.) reference, if applicable. 

	The second volume was set out in the same way. Both volumes were continually annotated, with subsequent certificate of title references often noted in the volumes.

	

	There was an alphabetical index at the beginning of the first volume. It also contained pencil annotations relating to the second volume - often these noted the page of the corresponding entry in the second volume. There appeared to have been no other index for access into the second volume.

	

	The second volume was superseded by a set of index cards. These are still held by Land Information New Zealand.
