	From the labelling of these items, it would appear that some of the maps were related to state coal, but it is unclear which maps these might have been.

	The two items in this series represented two different types of mining index map. The first (item R23186899) consisted of aperture cards of NZMS 261 cadastral maps with annotations made in c.1983. The maps were arranged by New Zealand Topographic Map Grid references (where E46 was the Invercargill area).

	The second (item R23186903) consisted of aperture cards of older mining index maps that appeared to have been based on Gazette maps.

	The original maps are still held by Land Information New Zealand.
