	This series consists of four incomplete ranges of imperial record sheet aperture cards. The first range (item R23186842) contained photographic copies of superseded maps already held at Archives New Zealand (accession D107), while the second, third and fourth items consisted of photographic copies of maps not yet held by Archives New Zealand. When searching for a particular numbered map, it may be necessary to check all four ranges. The list of maps in D107 will help to identify those in the first (and largest) range.

	The aperture cards in the third range (item R23186845) appear to have been created using colour positive images on film strip (and then taped into the cards), rather than the standard microfilm-type images. 

	Some of the cards were labelled "B.S." in front of the number, rather than the standard "R.S." or "R.M.".

	Imperial record sheets were created to provide a graphical representation of survey records for each area and to quickly give surveyors and others reference to relevant existing survey data. The record sheets showed the block, section and survey district boundaries, streets and roads of a particular area. The maps included references to survey office (SO) and deposited plans (DP).

	

	Some of the the original maps are held by Archives New Zealand, Dunedin, accession D107.
