[1] The Registrar was directed to keep a book called "The Book of Consecutive Numbers" containing in consecutive order the number of each instrument. Every county of the Auckland Province at that time except for the County of Eden was distinguished by a letter and a separate book was kept for each County. The application books contain more than one County, which reflects the increase in numbers of counties in the period between 1856-1880.
