            [authenticityNote] => Due to a historic arrangement and description decision, the multiple number subject filing system of the Department of Justice was not retained as a single series but divided into individual series based on an alphabetical prefix. This does not comply with accepted archival arrangement principles but due to the complexity and number of accessions which have been dealt with in this manner, it has been decided to allow this arrangement to continue until a major rearrangement can be undertaken

This series documented the significant movement towards the emphasis on victims in the justice system since lthe ate 1980s. 
The Victim Task Force was established in 1988 under the Victims of Offences Act. The records in this series reflected the structure, functions and activities of the Victim Task Force, provided evidence of interaction with outside organisations and policy development. Victim related records can also be found in ADM (subseries 2/97-) and P&R series before 1988. 



The Department of Justice provided secretarial and administrative services to the Task Force until it was disestablished in 1993.

	This restriction is necessitated by the identification of copies of court documents in a range of Ministry files held at Archives New Zealand. 100 years is the restriction that applies to most criminal and family related court records stored at Archives New Zealand. Given that the examples of court documents identified in Ministry files mainly relate to criminal and family related matters, implementing a 100-year access restriction in all Ministry records is appropriate.

	Some of the court documents will be subject to suppression or other restrictions imposed by the judiciary.

	Many of the records also include personal information of identifiable individuals and are subject to restriction under the Privacy Act 1993.
