	Deposited plans (DP) were plans deposited with the District Land Registrar that showed subdivision under the Land Transfer Act. They were referred to as land transfer (LT) plans until they were deposited, when they became deposited plans (with the same number). Some plans in the sequence were still labelled as LT plans, presumably because the plans they depicted had not been deposited.

	

	The first volume in this series was a combined index that organised references to land transfer and deposited plans into an alphabetical list. It covered plans from number 1 to 2,650, though there were some gaps near the end of the sequence. Entries were not in strict alphabetical order, as they seem to have been noted down on the correct alphabetical page as the plans were registered. This index included entries relating to survey districts, towns, townships and estates. Each entry included:

	   -   plan number

	   -   name of survey district, town or township

	   -   name of proprietor

	   -   related block and section numbers

	The rear of the volume contained an index, listed in order of plan number, with the corresponding page reference noted beside each.

	The later volumes in the series split the index into three separate volumes. The first indexed plans relating to towns, and the second indexed townships and estates. The final volume covered survey districts, settlements, closed roads, pre-emptive rights and Maori reserves. These three volumes were probably created as the first index volume was wound up.

	Each volume had an alphabetical index at the front. The indexes were then divided by block and section number under each geographical heading, with the corresponding deposited (or land transfer) plan number noted beside these when applicable. Deeds plan numbers were also noted when relevant, and in the survey district index, deeds plan numbers were underlined, in order to differentiate them from other plan numbers.
