	There were two deeds index D volumes. The second was simply a duplicate copy of the first 68 pages of the original D volume. It appears to have been created in the 1930s, possibly due to the deteriorating condition of the pages in the original volume.

	Underneath each land heading (legal description of land) was a list of the registered documents relating to that piece of land. The details recorded for each document included:

	   -   the number of the transaction (deed / instrument number)

	   -   the time and date of receipt

	   -   the names of both parties

	   -   the type of transaction

	   -   the date of transaction

	   -   the volume and page number of the deeds register in which the transaction was recorded

	The volumes also contained references to the subsequent group of transactions relating to the land (often in a land transfer register).

	The C volumes were notably different to the others in the series. The first C volume was a sectional index to both Port Chalmers and part of Dunedin. Folios 1 to 252 in the first C volume covered Port Chalmers (and corresponded to a Map A - location unknown). The rest of the volume (re-numbered from folio 1) related to Dunedin (and contained reference to a Map B - location also unknown). The second C volume covered Dunedin from block 21 onwards.

	At the front of volume R and the rear of volume T were some entries transcribed from Canterbury Land District indexes that related to land in the McKerrow Survey District.
