Action files concern cases in which a person, or body, is suing someone else in the Court for financial or other reasons. 

In the 1980s, their name changed to Civil Proceeding Files. 
The files comprise documents admitted as evidence, in addition to testimony and judgments, affidavits, statements of claim, exhibits (such as advertising and gazette notices) and correspondence. 
Usually civil case files from Magistrate/District court are not transferred to Archives New Zealand, however according to Court disposal authority implementation guide, any surviving records held in the Courts that predate 1900 should be transferred to the appropriate Archives New Zealand Office, regardless of what record type they are and what the disposal is for that record type. Some of these files are included in this series.





Existing court record keeping systems were superseded by the introduction of the Case Management System throughout all New Zealand's High Courts from 2003 onwards.
