	This series consists of various kinds of objects and ephemera (pamphlets, booklets,  programmes, art work,  invitations, menus, brochures etc.)  plus a series of audio tapes (mainly in the form of speeches) plus several 16mm films that were collected by Walter Nash in the course of his political life. Much of this material appears to have been obtained in the course of attending various commemorative events, both overseas and within New Zealand.  Examples include:

	

		 A framed, first editiion, Reserve Bank 1 pound bank note from 1940,  with letter to Walter Nash
	

		A carved wooden Maori-style club
	

		An Indonesian Kris knife, ivory and gold handle, ivory sheath with silver plate on sheath 'presented by Tunku Abdul Rahman'
	

		A leather briefcase, gilt-lettered 'M.J. Savage M.P.' with silver buckle inscribed 'Presented by his Parliamentary Colleagues, 1935'

	Following the death of Rt. Hon. Sir Walter Nash, administrative responsibility for this collection now rests with the Chief Archivist.

	Access conditions

	Access to the record list for this series is open.

	(2.) Access to records:

	There is no restriction on content, however please note the following:

	Objects and art-work marked 'special handling' are protected under Section 49(1)(a) of the Public Records Act 2005, and can only be viewed under supervision if an appointment is made through Research Services, Archives New Zealand.  Gloves must be worn when handling objects and art-work, and support pillows may be required.  These will be provided by Archives New Zealand.

	Audio recordings are not issuable due to their technical format. Contact Archives New Zealand for permission to view or to check the availability of alternative access provisions. Viewing, i if granted, is by appointment only.

	Films are also not issuable due to their technical format. Contact Archives New Zealand for permission to view or to check the availability of alternative access provisions. Viewing, i if granted, is by appointment only.
