A very small number of items in this series are dated between 1943 and 1976, and these have been used as the start and end dates for the holdings, although it is possible that other items in the list date from earlier or later than those years. 

This accession was transferred to the then National Archives on 19 January 1979.

This is an artificial series created by Archives New Zealand to describe a group of maps and plans received as a single accession from the Lands and Survey Department.  It comprises NZMS [New Zealand Mapping Service] maps. 
The maps in this accession are a mixture of North Island, South Island and miscellaneous.  Those maps from the North Island sequence may be identified by an 'N' prefix before the record number, while South Island maps have a 'S' prefix.  Maps from the miscellaneous section of the list feature a variety of suffixes and prefixes, including 'L&S', 'T', 'NZMS' and 'D'.
