This series comprises records created by the State Forest Branch of the Lands and Survey Department.  The branch was formed in 1896 to administer state forests through the office of Chief Forester in each land district.
The series contains a memoranda book and two sets of Regulations for New Zealand Forests.  Other material relating to the management of forests by the Lands and Survey Department can be found in series 18487 [former archives reference LS53].
Item 1, a book of memoranda includes reports of operations and forest conditions, expenditures and work undertaken.
Items 2  and 3, published regulations, were created for the management of forests under the New Zealand State Forests Act 1885.
