This is an artificial series created by Archives New Zealand to describe a variety of miscellaneous items received from the Head Office of the Lands and Survey Department.  Item held in the series include registers of staff, a schedule of leases, books of rules and regulations and various office and administrative manuals.
The original paper list for this series included descriptive information relating to some items.  This has been captured below:
Item five, a register of staff, gives the name and date of birth of the employee, with the date of appointment, the office held and any other offices held in conjunction, location of employment, salary, leaves of absence, and remarks
Item seven, a schedule of leases, gives the date of the lease, the name of the lessee, grants determined by the Crown, the location and acreage of the property, the name of the reserve, the period of the lease, the date of commencement, amount of rental and payments made.
Item eight, a register of departmental officers, is arranged by district and gives files numbers, names of officers, post held, location, date of appointment, salary and allowances.
Item thirteen, a Crown Lands Guide, gives a digest of land laws and regulations, land available for selection and other information.
Item fourteen, a record book of re-valuations, includes leaseholds such a perpetual leases, small grazing runs, deferred payment tenure and agricultural leases.  It gives the name of the selector, the date of the lease or licence, the location and acreage of the property, the original upset price, the revaluation and a calculation of the difference.
Item fifteen, a report on the Intercolonial Stock Conference, relates to a conference convened to consider means for combating Tick Fever.
Item sixteen, a Crown Lands Guide, gives instructions to selectors of land and lists areas open for purchase.
Item seventeen, an index to Cabinet decisions, gives a resume of decisions, the date of the decision and the file number in alphabetical order.
Item eighteen, a compilation of regulations, includes material relating to forests, land settlement, worker's dwellings and Maori land settlement.
Item nineteen, a minute book, relates to a committee formed to advise the department on the building and management of houses.
Item twenty three, a register of applications of land by aliens, gives the name of the applicant, the date and nature of the application, the file number and the decision.
Item forty seven, Felton Mathew's Field Book, is a microfilm copy only.  The original is held in the Auckland Public Library.
