The following notes are part of the original documentation for the Police [P] Record Group:
The station diary, or diary of duty was entered up daily showing staff duties and incidents during the previous 24 hours. The duty report showed:
(a) actual hours of duty
(b) actual hours of meal period
(c) time engaged on and concise particulars of each inquiry, patrol or other job
(d) name of complainant or person inquired for
(e) reports submitted and arrests made
(f) number of files submitted
(g) numbers of files on hand
(h) members absent from duty and reason therefore.
The entries in the diary were written in ink by the member concerned when he finished duty and were also checked daily by the member in charge of the station or office. Where a member was absent from the station on leave or for any other cause, an appropriate entry was made in the diary by the member in charge.
