	Maintenance orders are court orders requiring a person to make regular maintenance payments towards the upkeep of a family member. Two main types of maintenance records survive – Guard Books, including copies of all orders made and usually indexed, and Maintenance record books which record all payments made through the courts on maintenance orders.

	These Maintenance Order Guard Books record the details of the defendant and claimant and the payment amount to be made. They are filed chronologically.
