	Some or all of these files may at some time have been controlled by one of the Land Development Offices of the department, rather than the Auckland District land drainage and development branch in the Auckland District Office of Lands and Survey. The land development offices were at Whangarei (BAMZ), Rotorua (BCDE), and Te Kuiti (BAJE). The files have not as yet been examined closely enough to test this.

	Some files contain earlier papers which have been top-numbered from other series, some of the papers have cross-references to earlier correspondence numbers, and others have former file numbers.  Some of these early papers relate to areas outside the Auckland region - for example, Canterbury, Southland and Westland.
