To protect personal privacy, all patient files are restricted for 100 years from the date of record closure.
Individual patient files will not be listed in the public finding aids during the restriction period. Neither the list nor the files will be made available to researchers without the written permission of Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora, Nelson Marlborough.
Procedures for requesting patient records:
- Researchers should contact Archives New Zealand Staff for assistance.
- Archives New Zealand Staff will confirm if a patient record is held and advise the researcher of the full Archive Reference.
- The researcher should contact Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora, Nelson Marlborough, for permission to view the records.
- When written permission is received, the researcher should provide a copy to Archives New Zealand Staff and may then request the specified patient records.
The Chief Executive and designated officers administer access to records. In the first instance, please direct access enquiries to:
