All Post Office Classification cards are restricted for 100 years from the date of birth of the individuals concerned apart from the following exceptions:
1. Individuals can access their own classification cards upon providing proof of identification.
2. Researchers can also access the classification cards of family members upon providing proof of identification and satisfying Archives New Zealand staff that they are related to the individual concerned.
3. Successor agencies to the New Zealand Post Office (currently New Zealand Post, Spark and ANZ) can access the classification cards for their in-service personnel who were transferred to these companies from the New Zealand Post Office.
4. The Government Superannuation Fund (currently administered by Datacom) can access the classification cards for the purpose of identifying individuals and/or their superannuation commencing dates.
