π Compensation Court Ngaruawahia - W N Searancke, Resident Magistrate Ngaruawahia - 11 October 1866 - Reporting on a meeting he had held with more than 90 male adult Natives at Putakauere on 9th and 10th October. Aims of meeting: To inquire into the causes of sudden departure of large number of Natives; to explain vague flying reports; to prevent further migration by calling upon each Native present his political views. Notes during last two months 150 Natives have left District: 35 to Tamahere and Maungatautari, 115 to Piako District, all but one had been active in war against H M's Force. Assisted at meeting by Te Wheoro and the old friendly Natives or "Kupapa". Notes has dispatched a trustworthy Native to Te Piako for further information
